MYOB Business vs QuickBooks Online: An Australian Comparison
MYOB Business and QuickBooks Online both provide browser-based bookkeeping, but their plan limits can push the same business into different tiers. Count bank accounts, people and required reports before comparing the advertised prices.
The differences to check

|---|---|---|
| Standard pricing | Lite $35/month or $315/year; Pro $70/month at standard monthly pricing. Check the billing option and GST at checkout. | Simple Start $33; Essentials $60; Plus $84; Advanced $125/month standard AU list prices. Confirm GST and checkout terms. |

Product information checked 9 September 2026 against MYOB Business's official information and QuickBooks Online's official information. Features and prices are plan-dependent; these are documented-feature comparisons, not scored lab tests.
Name the MYOB product first
This comparison concerns MYOB Business Lite and Pro. AccountRight is a different Windows-based product family, and Solo is another proposition again. A quote labelled only MYOB isn't specific enough.
MYOB Lite's connected-bank and employee limits are early checks. QuickBooks has ordinary-user limits by tier and puts some supplier, currency, stock and project functions on higher plans. A business can outgrow the entry tier without becoming large.
Build one payroll budget
MYOB Business charges payroll by employee, subject to the selected plan's capacity. QuickBooks has a separate Employment Hero integration. Ask for the ongoing price of each complete setup at today's headcount and after the next two hires.
Then clarify who fixes a payroll-to-accounting mismatch. The owner should not have to discover during a deadline that two vendors each consider the other responsible.
Choose using the report your business needs
A contractor may need costs by job; a retailer may need stock quantities; an owner with a small team may mainly need reliable bills and payroll. Give the vendor that question and ask them to produce the answer from sample records.
Try one partial supplier delivery or part-paid customer invoice. Can staff explain what remains outstanding? Test permissions for the person entering invoices and the person reviewing the books. Features that only work under a shared administrator login do not meet a sensible access requirement.
Make the decision with a repeatable trial
Use the trial worksheet to record completed tasks, missing capabilities and recurring manual work. Put subscriptions, add-ons and setup into the cost calculator on the same billing and tax basis.

Key takeaways
- Compare the named plan and complete setup, including payroll and integrations.
