This is a researched comparison, not a performance score. Prices use the vendor’s stated billing basis; confirm AUD, GST, current entitlements and commitment before buying. “Report preparation” does not mean “lodged with the ATO”.

01

Xero

Businesses sharing their books with an adviser, especially when payroll and connected apps matter.

Ignite has invoice and bill limits. Foreign-currency accounting starts at Comprehensive.

02

MYOB Business

Small businesses wanting browser-based Australian bookkeeping with payroll charged by employee.

Lite, Pro, Solo and AccountRight are different products. Compare the named plan.

03

MYOB AccountRight

Businesses whose stock, purchasing or job workflows justify a Windows accounting application.

A Mac browser session does not provide every Windows feature.

04

QuickBooks Online

Service businesses choosing between progressively richer reporting, project and inventory plans.

US QuickBooks features, payroll prices and tax guidance do not automatically apply in Australia.

05

Reckon One

Owners wanting a lower-priced cloud shortlist with unlimited users and separately chosen payroll.

Older articles describe superseded module pricing. Use the current named plan.

06

Zoho Books

Small businesses already using Zoho, or testing a free cloud option within its eligibility limits.

Free has a revenue ceiling and 1,000 invoices/year. Check what happens when you exceed either.

07

Rounded

Australian sole traders selling their own time or services who want invoicing and record keeping together.

GST needs or automatic bank feeds can make Pro the relevant comparison, rather than Starter.

08

FreshBooks

Client-service businesses prioritising proposals, time and invoicing, with Australian tax/payroll handled deliberately.

Client limits are not user limits. Its AU pricing page contains region-sensitive add-on figures.

09

Manager

Owners comfortable managing a local accounting file who want to avoid a desktop licence fee.

Freeware is not the same as open source. You are responsible for desktop backups and recovery.

10

GnuCash

Users who want free, open-source desktop accounting and are comfortable learning a double-entry ledger.

The accounting concepts are more visible than in guided cloud software. Trial the reports before migrating.

11

Cashflow Manager

Small businesses wanting a Windows cashbook-style workflow, with Gold for invoicing, stock and employees.

A monthly instalment does not mean a month-to-month commitment: Gold has a 12-month minimum.
