Two points catch people out. Solo cannot be changed to another plan later, according to MYOB's FAQ, so a sole trader who expects to hire or lodge BAS from the software should start on Lite. And Lite and Pro run in a browser while AccountRight still needs Windows for setup and some work; our MYOB Business vs AccountRight guide explains the split, and the Lite and Pro guide shows the screens.

How much does MYOB payroll cost?

MYOB charges payroll in three different ways depending on the plan.

Plan How payroll is charged Employee cap Before 1 Nov 2026 From 1 Nov 2026
Business Lite Per employee paid each month 2 $3 each $5 each
Business Pro Per employee paid each month Unlimited $3 each $5 each
AccountRight Plus and Premier Included in the plan Unlimited $0 $0
Payroll Only Flat monthly fee 4 $15 a month $20 a month

Source: MYOB pricing page and pricing update notice, checked 17 October 2026. MYOB says the new $5 fee will appear on invoices from 1 December 2026.

MYOB's support article explains how the per-employee fee works:

  • You pay once per employee per month, however many pay runs you process for them.
  • The month is set by the "Date of payment" in the pay run, not the pay period. A July pay period paid in August counts in August.
  • An owner paid through payroll counts as an employee.
  • Zero-dollar pays do not count, for example a pay used only to send year-to-date figures to the ATO.
  • Deleted or reversed pays still count for that month.
  • Anyone who can submit pay runs can incur fees, so restrict payroll access to the people who run pays.

On Lite, paying a third person in a month means upgrading to Pro first. MYOB lets you move back afterwards, but you pay for the upgraded plan to the end of the billing period.

What does MYOB payroll cost at 1, 2, 5 and 10 staff?

Staff paid each month Cheapest MYOB setup Monthly cost before 1 Nov 2026 Monthly cost from 1 Nov 2026 Year, monthly billing (from 1 Nov) Year, annual base billing (from 1 Nov)
1 Lite + payroll $38 $40 $480 $375
2 Lite + payroll $41 $45 $540 $435
5 Pro + payroll $85 $95 $1,140 $930
10 Pro + payroll $100 $120 $1,440 $1,230
Any number AccountRight Plus $165 $165 $1,980 $1,485
1 to 4, payroll only Payroll Only $15 $20 $240 Not offered

Illustrative, standard prices including GST, checked 17 October 2026. Annual base billing means the plan is paid yearly ($315 Lite, $630 Pro, $1,485 Plus) while payroll fees are still billed monthly. Payroll Only does not include accounting.

The November change adds $24 a year for each employee on Lite or Pro ($2 × 12). For a ten-person team on Pro that is $240 a year more.

When does AccountRight Plus become cheaper than Pro? On annual billing, Pro plus payroll costs $630 + $60 per employee a year from 1 November 2026, against $1,485 for Plus, so Plus is cheaper from 15 employees. On monthly billing, Pro reaches Plus's $1,980 at 19 employees, and Plus is cheaper from 20. Plus also includes unlimited inventory, stocktake and time billing, which can tip the decision earlier.

What add-ons does MYOB charge for?

Add-on Price (as at 17 October 2026) Applies to
Payroll, per employee paid in a month $3; $5 from 1 November 2026 Lite (max 2), Pro
Unlimited inventory $22 a month Lite and Pro (included in AccountRight)

AI BAS (beta), first year with Pro $39 a month in total ($25 AI BAS + Pro at $14), minimum $468 for the year Non-employing businesses, 12-month commitment
AI BAS from year two $25, $40 or $70 a month (non-employing); $30, $45 or $75 (employing), by BAS transaction tier Rolling 12-month term
Extra users No charge on Lite, Pro, Plus and Premier Solo is single-user
Another business file Premier only AccountRight Premier
Online invoice payments Separate fees and terms Any plan that uses them

Sources: MYOB pricing, product and AI BAS pages, checked 17 October 2026. The AI BAS tiers are 1–100, 101–750 and more than 750 BAS transactions per BAS period. MYOB states that it is not a registered tax or BAS agent and that you remain responsible for what you lodge.

MYOB promotional vs standard prices: what will year one cost?

MYOB's current offers are open to new customers and to returning customers who have not had an MYOB subscription for at least 30 days. Discounts apply to the base subscription only, so payroll, inventory, online payments and AI BAS are charged at their normal rates. At the end of the discount period the plan reverts to the standard price and auto-renews.

Plan and billing Offer First-year cost Standard year You save in year one
Solo, monthly 50% off for 3 months $115.50 $132 $16.50
Solo, annual $12 for the first 12 months $12.00 $99 $87.00
Lite, monthly 14-day trial, then 50% off for 6 months $315.00 $420 $105.00
Lite, annual 70% off the first 12 months $94.50 $315 $220.50
Pro, monthly 14-day trial, then 70% off for 6 months $546.00 $840 $294.00
Pro, annual 50% off the first 12 months $315.00 $630 $315.00
AccountRight Plus, monthly 14-day trial, then 60% off for 3 months $1,683.00 $1,980 $297.00
AccountRight Plus, annual 50% off the first 12 months $742.50 $1,485 $742.50
AccountRight Premier, monthly 14-day trial, then 60% off for 3 months $2,142.00 $2,520 $378.00
AccountRight Premier, annual 50% off the first 12 months $945.00 $1,890 $945.00
Payroll Only, monthly $2 a month for 3 months, then $20 $186.00 $240 $54.00

Illustrative, base plan only, using MYOB's published offer and standard prices checked 17 October 2026. Monthly first-year figures count 12 paid months after any free trial. Payroll Only assumes you start now, so months 4 to 12 are at the new $20 price.

Under the AccountRight annual offer terms, the discount drops to 25% off after the first 12 months, which is how MYOB arrives at its $1,485 and $1,890 annual prices. The same terms say you get no refund if you cancel during the term, and MYOB's 90-day money-back guarantee does not apply to that offer. If you change plan during a discount period, the discount runs only for the time remaining.

Monthly or annual billing: which is better?

Every MYOB annual price is 25% below twelve monthly payments: Solo $99 against $132, Lite $315 against $420, Pro $630 against $840, Plus $1,485 against $1,980 and Premier $1,890 against $2,520.

The trade-off is commitment. MYOB's terms offer a rolling monthly or rolling 12-month term, and a 12-month term renews for another 12 months unless you give at least 10 days' notice. MYOB does not refund partial periods unless its terms or the law require it. Annual billing makes sense once you are confident the plan fits; a business still testing its setup, or likely to grow out of Lite within months, may prefer monthly billing for the first year.

How MYOB prices have changed

9 September 2026 Our own check recorded Lite $35 a month or $315 a year, Pro $70, AccountRight Plus $165, Payroll Only $15 and payroll $3 ASBG guides, consistent with MYOB today

We could not find MYOB's own notice for the March 2026 change, so treat that row as reported rather than confirmed. Under its terms, MYOB must give subscribers at least 30 days' written notice before changing a fee, and you can terminate before the change takes effect and receive a refund of any fees prepaid for the period after termination.

How does MYOB compare with Xero and QuickBooks on price?

Staff paid MYOB, annual base billing MYOB, monthly billing Xero (monthly billing only) QuickBooks Simple Start + Standard Payroll
0 $315 (Lite) $420 (Lite) $444 (Ignite) or $936 (Grow) $396
1 $375 (Lite) $480 (Lite) $444 (Ignite) or $936 (Grow) $468
2 $435 (Lite) $540 (Lite) $936 (Grow) $540
5 $930 (Pro) $1,140 (Pro) $1,284 (Comprehensive) $756
10 $1,230 (Pro) $1,440 (Pro) $1,716 (Ultimate 10) $1,116

Standard annual cost including GST, no promotions, checked 17 October 2026. MYOB includes payroll at $5 per employee a month (the rate from 1 November 2026). Xero includes payroll in the plan up to its cap. QuickBooks uses Simple Start at $33 a month plus $6 per employee a month.

What the totals leave out:

  • Xero Ignite limits you to 20 invoices and 5 bills a month; Grow removes the cap. Xero has no annual billing. See the full breakdown in our Xero pricing guide.
  • QuickBooks Simple Start has one user, and supplier and bill management start at Essentials ($60 a month). Its offers do not discount payroll.
  • MYOB Lite limits you to two bank accounts and two employees.

For a feature comparison, read Xero vs MYOB and MYOB vs QuickBooks. For payroll-heavy businesses, the payroll software comparison adds Employment Hero, Payroller and Reckon.

How do I cancel MYOB?

  1. Export what you need first. Download reports, payroll history, payslips and attachments. After cancellation you have 30 days to extract your data at no extra charge, and employees using MYOB Team or YourPay have the same 30 days to download payslips.
  2. Check your notice date. Give at least 10 days' notice before the end of your current monthly or 12-month period. Less notice pushes the cancellation to the end of the following period.
  3. Cancel as the subscriber. Use the My Products page in your My Account dashboard, or contact MYOB customer support. During a 14-day free trial, the offer terms say to contact customer support.
  4. Expect no partial refund. Access continues to the end of the paid period. Payroll and other usage fees owing up to cancellation are still payable.
  5. Cancel AI BAS separately if you have it. It runs on a rolling 12-month commitment and stays active until the end of that term.

If MYOB notifies you of a fee or terms change, its terms let you terminate before the change takes effect and get a refund of fees prepaid for the period after termination. Keep the notice email.

Can I claim MYOB as a tax deduction?

Generally, yes, for the business portion. The ATO lists subscription fees for off-the-shelf software among deductible business operating expenses. If you are registered for GST, claim the GST in the fee as a GST credit (a tax invoice is needed for purchases over $82.50) and deduct the GST-exclusive amount. For example, Lite at $315 a year includes $28.64 GST ($315 ÷ 11), leaving a $286.36 deduction for a GST-registered business. The Xero pricing guide sets out the ATO rules in more detail, and our deductions list covers the rest.

Key takeaways

  • Standard MYOB prices run from $99 a year (Solo) to $210 a month (AccountRight Premier), GST included, as at 17 October 2026.

  • Lite and Pro charge payroll per employee paid each month: $3 now, $5 from 1 November 2026. AccountRight Plus and Premier include unlimited payroll.
  • Current offers cut 50% to 70% off the base plan for 3 to 12 months; payroll, inventory and other premium features are charged at full price.

Some third-party reviews describe MYOB prices as GST-exclusive, so rely on MYOB's checkout total.

You then have 30 days to extract your data at no charge, so export reports and payroll records first.

MYOB now sells its browser-based small business software as MYOB Business Lite and Pro, and explainers such as ScaleSuite describe Essentials users moving to MYOB Business. If you are on an older edition, check your plan in My Account before changing.
